Aikido in Turkiye
AIKIDO IN TURKIYE Aikido training in Turkiye started in 1983 when Kenji Kumagai Shihan came to our country from Japan. Although we know that there are people who have received aikido training in our country before, these are students who go abroad to study and do not go beyond individual training. In 1983, together with Kenji Kumagai Shihan, «Aikikai (Hombu Dojo) Style» courses aimed at the training of groups started in our country. The first aikido students to receive training in these courses; Ali Uludag, Mustafa Aygun, Lemi Bagdatlılar, Ahmet Berkol Okten, Ihsan Ozgun, Neshe Altan, Mevlut Zor, Melih Toprakcı, Yalcin Yenice, Yusuf Akyurt and Halit Vatansever. Ali Uludag, Mustafa Aygun, Lemi Bagdatlılar, İhsan Ozgun, Yalcin Yenice and Yusuf Akyurt, among these students, continued Aikido and opened their own dojoa (school) and helped thousands of young people learn Aikido in the «Aikikai Style». Despite their advancing age, these teachers still continue to give training without getting tired.
Turkiye Aikido in IAF
On 01.03.01, 5 Aikido groups authorized by Aikikai came together in Turkiye and had a productive meeting with Dorin Marchis, IAF membership development director, the ‘roof organization’ established under the name TURKISH AIKIKAI. As a result of this meeting, Mr. Yalcın Yenice Shihan was elected as the representative chairman for the representation of our country before the IAF. Our membership was accepted at the IAF meeting to be held in the fall of 2021 and we were named TURKISH IAF. We wish Yalçın Yenice Shihan success in his new assignment, and we thank Dorin Marchis and the Aikido groups in Turkiye for their valuable support.
